Characterisation of Jhari cattle—A new cattle germplasm from Telangana

In the present study, an attempt has been made to characterize and evaluate Jhari cattle of state. For characterization cattle, surveys were conducted in 17 villages 4 districts. Physical characteristics morphometric traits recorded for 193 animals different age sex. Production reproduction performance socio-economic parameters from 73 farmers villages. Animals reared on extensive system management, i.e. grazing only. Few provided supplement feeds bullocks only at home during working days. Animal houses open with wooden stick separated owner residence (82%). gray or white (90%) body colour. Body was small, compact cylindrical shape. Face convex longer as compared other populations state which is differentiating trait cattle. Udder not developed mostly bowl shaped. Temperament docile. Birth weight ranged 12 18 kg female calves 14-24 male calves. The average daily milk yield 1.52 1.0 3.0 kg. Lactation length varies 100 180 days 152 Calving interval 340 610 A pair may plough 1 acre land 6-8 h. It observed that are physically distinct region like Kamma, Vandharvi Thurupu. major character population, type. characters horns, thin base Ongole its grades. Keeping view significant contribution livelihood physical population be registered a breed.
